Dating magmatic processes through zircon U-Pb geochronology: CA-ID-TIMS versus LA-ICP-MS techniques
Zircon in igneous rocks is a perfect time capsule to reconstruct the temporal evolution of a magmatic system from its source in the mantle or deep crust to its emplacement in the upper crust or at the surface. We will figure out what are the main advances, advantages and challenges of both the precise and accurate CA-ID-TIMS and the most versatile and spatially resolved LA-ICP-MS techniques.
